2017 in Planning

Welcome to a new year and a new theme in Primary!  Do you already have a plan in place for your music throughout 2017?  Or does that thought stress you out? ;)  There are lots of ways to plan Primary music, obviously, and the way I like best is just to follow a few overarching guidelines. Take a look at last year's post for my "4 Steps for Planning a Year of Songs."  The major difference is that the Sharing Time outline for 2017 can be found here.

Please comment and let us know what kind of yearly planning works for you and your Primary!

Happy singing,

  1. I just wanted to thank you for all that you have shared! I bought Sharla's book because I loved your site so much, and have been so blessed. Thank you, thank you!

I did wonder, though, if you do (did? are you teaching Seminary now?) the same 3 songs for the full month, or if you varied your second two songs each week, and just kept the focus song the same throughout the entire month?

For January, I kept the same three songs for the full month, and really enjoyed it...but wondered if I should have changed one of the songs a few weeks to better fit the sharing time outline.

Just wondered what you found worked best for you! Thank you again for your blog, for your printables (that have made planning so much easier!), and for your insights. I sure appreciate you!

  2. Cali, thanks so much for letting me know I pointed you to Sharla! That is one of my main goals of this blog. She has inspired everything I do! I sent your comment on to her. :)

I do teach seminary now, but occasionally I get to sub in Primary. I miss the music so much!

As to your question about song repetition throughout the month, I've done it both ways. When I'm teaching a new song, I'm more likely to repeat it week after week, so the kids don't forget what they just learned. If I'm using a familiar song to supplement the Sharing Time theme, I'm more likely to just sing it one week. I don't think there's one right way to do it. :)

Again, thank you for your thoughts. It means so much to me!
